Pink Siam Tulip, scientifically known as Curcuma alismatifolia 'Pink' is a rhizomatous plant from the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). The epitome of tropical beauty, it has pink, tropical-looking inflorescence with cupped petals, like those of ginger. The 3 inch inflorescence sit atop stiff, slender stems that reach 2 feet tall; and emerge from clusters of tall, tulip-like foliage. A repeat bloomer, it yields masses of summer inflorescence. Pink Siam Tulip plant can grow in full sun to partial shade, and it prefers well-drained, moist soil. Avoid exposure to hot direct sunlight, which can burn its foliage. It loves hot days with high relative humidity. Siam tulip is hardy to USDA zone 8 to 10. Plant the rhizomes of pink Siam Ginger outdoors in the spring after the last frost. It should be kept moist throughout the growing period and should not be allowed to dry out. If planted in a container, containers should have drainage holes to prevent water stagnation, which results in rhizome rot. Dig up the rhizomes in the fall after the first frost, and store in them in a cool and dry place. Similarly, container-grown plants should be overwintered in a cool (not cold) place with minimal moisture. Pink Siam Ginger has no serious pests and disease issues. Siam Tulip is an excellent choice for indoor gardening, container planting, and for borders. The inflorescences make wonderful cut flowers that lend elegance to any arrangement.
