Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Lama Temple' is probably a mutation of Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis'. Very similar to 'Aureocaulis', it features brighter yellow culms and has a slightly smaller height with shorter nodes. The sunward side of the new culms in late spring turn a radiant cherry red colour for a couple of months. Culm sheaths are more pale and pink than other P. aureosulcata. Overall this cultivar is a brighter yellow version of 'Aureocaulis', with the bright lemon yellow colour remaining longer on new culms, while P. aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis' culms mature and turn golden yellow faster. Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Lama Temple' enjoys full sun to partial shade. It can thrive in full shade but it will not grow as fast. Lama Temple Bamboo reaches its mature height in approx. 5 to 10 years. This hardy yellow stem Bamboo can also be planted in containers or pots, as long as they are brought into a cold frame or garage in the winter. In USDA Climate Zones expect the following mature size culms heights: Zone 8 – over 20 feet Zone 7 – 15 feet Zone 6 – 12 feet Zone 5 – 8 feet Zone 4b – 5 feet Gain a hardiness zone with winter cover (a heavy poly batt, and a layer of light-coloured plastic). Loves Nettle Tea as a fertilizer.
