Wavy Bay Laurel is a fast-growing, aromatic Bay leaf plant, native to the Mediterranean. Pyramidal in shape, the Wavy Bay Leaf tree typically grows to 15 feet tall, but is commonly pruned smaller for garden purposes. The leaves are thick, green, and glossy with a crisp, wavy edge. They are used as a culinary herb for flavouring meats, BBQ, stews, and soups. Laurus nobilis 'Crispa' ('Undulata') has a more subtle and complex flavour than Laurus nobilis, and is generally a bit hardier (USDA Zone 7b). The aromatic foliage is also used for holiday garlands and wreaths, to beautiful affect. The female Bay Leaf plant produces small, yellow-green flowers in the spring, and when pollinated, purple-black berries. In regions colder than USDA Zone 7b, it should be grown in containers, and brought indoors in the fall. It is very easy to grow and long lived in containers.
